Brownswood Recordings is the independent record label founded by DJ, record collector and broadcaster Gilles Peterson. Founded in 2006, it’s a platform for new artists to grow, and a space for established acts to break with tradition. An outlet for the eclectic breadths of Gilles’ taste as a DJ and collector, its early output broached new orchestral arrangements, full-throttle Japanese jazz and club-rooted soul music.

Over a decade later, that inclusive attitude continues: the new jazz messengers of the UK underground, fresh tangents in hip-hoptipped-beatmaking, rapidly-mutating club music from Havana.

Blood is always in need. Here at Redeye we understand how real that need is and how it can mean the literal difference between life or death to many patients in need. Happening on Thursday, August 23rd, Vessel Fest is our way of giving back directly to our local area of Hillsborough, NC with a blood drive on site at the Redeye HQ.

For those not local to our NC offices, we encourage you to take the opportunity to show support nationwide between 8/20 and 8/25 to help us reach, and hopefully exceed, our national campaign goal of 25 pints of blood. Using THIS link to our national Vessel Fest campaign page via Red Cross’s Sleeve Up, anyone nationwide can go to set up an appointment to give blood during our campaign week of 8/20-25. All registered donations will go towards the Vessel Fest national goal of 25 pints of viable blood. As an added incentive to keep your appointment to give blood, the American Red Cross will give everyone who makes an appointment and gives blood a $5 Amazon gift card; please visit THIS link for more details.

If you plan to participate in Vessel Fest either here in NC or elsewhere, we encourage you to use #VesselFest in tagging any social media posts to help us spread the word!

(This Event is US Only)

Stones Throw Records is an American independent music label based in Los Angeles, California. Under the direction of founder Peanut Butter Wolf, Stones Throw has released music ranging from hip-hop to experimental psych-rock since its inception. LA Weekly deemed the label an “eternally evolving experiment” in celebration of its 20th anniversary.

Chris Manak (Peanut Butter Wolf) founded Stones Throw in 1996 as means of posthumously releasing his music with the late MC Charles Hicks (Charizma). Hicks and Manak met in 1989 at 16 and 19, respectively, and began collaborating as Charizma and Peanut Butter Wolf. The duo released one promo cassette of “Red Light Green Light” through Hollywood Basic—the now-defunct hip-hop subsidiary of Hollywood Records—before leaving the label. Their collaboration was cut short in 1993, when Hicks was fatally shot in a carjacking at the age of 20. Stones Throw’s first release, “My World Premier” by Charizma and Peanut Butter Wolf, arrived three years later.

The label has since released legendary hip-hop records including Madvillainy, the highly acclaimed debut from Madvillain (a collaboration between producer Madlib and MF DOOM) in 2004, and J Dilla’s Donuts in 2006. Stones Throw continues to diversify its roster through the representation of experimental performer Gary Wilson, former political journalist Anika, psychedelic-noir act Mild High Club, and others.
